Dr. sc. hum. Andreas Deckert
Senior scientist at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH), HCE member since 2018.
Currently, I am mainly working on aspects of non-communicable diseases in low- and middle-income countries, but also on antimicrobial resistance in Central Asia and mental health. Non-communicable diseases and antimicrobial resistance in particular are closely linked to environmental factors in both directions. In addition, I am concerned with the negative effects of the Anthropocene on indigenous populations and their habitats in the Andes.

Why I joined the HCE
As I have been part of the environmental movement since the 1990s and was involved in sustainable development movement from an early stage, the HCE and its scientific approach in this area aroused my interest. I find the interdisciplinary nature of the program particularly important in order to tackle global environmental problems comprehensively.
