Prof. (apl.) Dr. Klaus Pfeilsticker
Former researcher at the Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) at Heidelberg University, HCE member since 2013.
My (partially) ongoing research activities are focusing on climate relevant processes in the Earth atmosphere, in particular those related to atmospheric photochemistry and physics and radiative transfer. Further, on a more voluntary level I’m concerned with the local and regional energy provision based on the triple EEEs (energy efficiency and saving, and the use of renewables energies).

Why I joined the HCE
As my personal experience in the physics based environmental research evolved over the years, I became more and more aware of the interdisciplinary character and the societal relevance of our research, for which the HCE forms the ideal (and necessary) framework in collaborating within the University.
My highlights so far
As a retiree, I’m particularly interested to participate in the various HCE online seminars and lectures in order to keep me informed on the various interdisciplinary research activities related to the environmental issues at the University.
My key partners
My key collaborators at the University are those colleagues at the IUP (Institute of Environmental Physics) with a strong connection to atmospheric photochemistry and physics, the source and budget of green-houses as well as remote sensing. Nationally and internationally, I’m collaborating with larger number of researchers, mostly those involved in studies related to the photochemistry of ozone and free radicals, and the budget of ozone depleting and green-house forcing substances. Within the frame-work of my research activities, since the early 2000s I regularly contributed to the quadrennial assessment of reports on stratospheric ozone provided by WMO (World Meteorological Organisation) to the 198 member states of the Montreal Protocol (1987) and its amendments for safeguarding the global ozone layer.
