Dr. Max Jungmann
Executive Manager of the HCE, member since 2019.
My key interests are:
- What drives climate action? What holds it back?
- How can sustainable development be mainstreamed?
- How does international politics, especially on sustainability challenges, work?
- How does polycentric climate governance work?
- How can sustainability be integrated into strategy development, leadership, and innovation management?
- How can we enhance transformation processes and leave no one behind?

Why I joined the HCE
To connect with researchers from different disciplines both at Heidelberg University and beyond, develop a better understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration and learn about recent developments in other fields.
My highlights so far
There are so many rewarding experiences over the years – from existing and insightful events to working side by side with some of the greatest minds at Heidelberg University on developing the Climate Action Science project. Essentially, the HCE is always about the people we get to work and we are exceptionally blessed to have so many motivated, smart, and open-minded researchers at the center.
My key partners
As the Executive Manager, I work with the entire HCE community. In my own research, I work a lot with André Butz (Physics), Sanam Vardag (Physics), Jale Tosun (Political Science), Timo Goeschl (Economics), Joacim Rocklöv (Public Health), Marina Treskova (Eco-Epidemiologyst), Trish Schwerdtle (Public Health), Rainer Sauerborn (Global Health), Till Bärnighausen (Medicine), Kathrin Foshag (Geography), Tobias Zumbrägel (Political Science), and others.
