First Publication on the „Nature Restoration“ project

As a result of the “Nature Restoration” project funded by the HCE, HCE co-director Pof. Dr. Jale Tosun has published a first article.

The open access article entitled “Attributing responsibility to farmers for environmental protection and climate action: insights from the European Union” was written by Prof. Dr. Jale Tosun together with Simon Schaub, Charlene Marek, Laura Kellermann and Marcus A. Koch and published in the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences.

The authors analyze Eurobarometer data to explain the differences in the responsibility that the public ascribes to farmers for combating climate change and environmental degradation. Their analysis shows that in 19 of the 27 Member States of the European Union, people who perceive farmers as the cause of climate change and environmental degradation also attribute responsibility for climate and environmental protection measures to them. In 11 Member States, left-leaning people are also significantly more likely to attribute responsibility for combating climate change and environmental degradation to female farmers.
